Your fix turned out great. Well worth your effort. Several years back I enlarged a log cabin quilt my late mother-in-law made 30-plus years ago. I couldn’t find the same 1970’s brown calicos, but was able to find some similar enough. I made several strips of 4 inch blocks of these fabrics and just did straight quilting. Then attached them to the sides of the original quilt, after removing the binding. I did make new binding, lots of it. My improved queen size quilt is now 100” x 100”. Today I am patching some pullling apart seams, still worth fixing it up.
