Default When looking at fabric requirements on a pattern -

Do you:

buy exactly the amounts listed
buy less than listed/suggested because you think the pattern maker was being generous
or
more, because you want to allow for shrinkage and mistakes?

As far as that goes, have you found some patterns to be very close in their requirements? or are some generous? some skimpy?

I tend to buy "extra" when it's available - because I wash before cutting, make mistakes, and change my mind.

Do you take the pattern at "face value" - or do you open it up and do your own calculations for the amounts needed?
