Each square on the graph paper represents one-half inch.

The red/white quarter-square triangles are five inches finished (5.5 inches unfinished). I made a half-square triangle with two 7-inch squares of the dark red and white fabrics. Put them right-sides together, draw a diagonal line from corner to corner, and stitch 1/4-inch on both sides of the drawn line. Cut them apart and press open. You will have two half-square triangles (don't trim down yet). Put one of those half-square triangles on a medium-red 7-inch square, right-sides together. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner (opposite corners from the half-square triangles) and stitch a 1/4-inch away from the drawn line. Cut them apart and press open. Trim to 5.5 inches. Do the same to the other half-square triangle. You'll end up with four quarter-square triangles using one 7-inch square of dark red, one 7-inch square of white, and two 7-inch squares of medium red. The dark red/white are opposite on two of them. Keep like squares together.

The blue/white sawtooth stars are eight inches finished (8.5 inches unfinished). http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/quilt-...ar-quilt-block
