if you have the wall space, purchase an inexpensive shoe bag that hangs on the wall. for poles longer than size of shoe compartment, carefully cut a slit in the bottom of a pocket so the pole fits through the "open" pocket and the lower end of the pole rests in a lower un-cut pocket. for longer poles you may need to cut/slit two horizontal pockets...just make sure there is an uncut one at the bottom. I use this technique for storing my rolls of interfacing, etc. and it works well.
