About 5 years ago my dishwasher (at my previous home) died. I ordered one to replace it, it was delivered, and the installer said that my cabinet's opening was not high enough for that one to fit. The house was only about 9 years old, so it surprised me that there isn't a standard height allowed for dishwashers. (It also surprised me that the dishwasher died after only 9 years. I looked up the average life of a modern dishwasher online and guess what - 6-10 years!) The bottom line is to first measure the opening in your cabinet and be sure to get a dishwasher that will fit. I wound up with an LG with stainless steel interior and was very happy with it. Then I moved, and have an older dishwasher that works fine but is not as quiet, as pretty, or as "snazzy" as the new LG. But I will keep using it until it won't run any more.
