embossed White machines

I have two questions about embossed Whites.. Are they molded like this or is there a shell that is stuck fo a regular base? Is there a better cleaning plan than sewing machine oil and Q tips? oops 3 questions. How were the bronze finishes added? Thanks so much. Leonf
