That was one reason I was doing the log cabin type design...so the ribs didn't have to match up.
Now that I'm thinking of doing just squares I'll turn them alternating horizontal/vertical orientation of ribs.
Could you turn your 2 inch pieces into sashing? My mom made me a quilt with corduroy and it is HEAVY. Nearly unusable, but I love her effort. It's beautiful, just not practical.
