you don't need #60 weight for quilting. On the long arm I use mostly SoFine #50 and save the #60 and thinner wt. for when I'm going to do lots of fill work and microquilting. A 40 or 50 wt. is fine. Just be sure to match your needle size to the thread thickness. Most threads will indicate the needle needed. If you are FMQ quilting on your DSM with a #40 wt thread you might want to try a size 14 topstitch needle
