I've tried different wider feet but never bothered with a walking foot. I just use my standard 1/4" seam foot. Doesn't seem to make much difference to me. Until last year I've been using a vintage machine that didn't have much in the way of options.
I have the preemie quilts I'll be quilting down. I'll try one of them with my integrated Bernina walking foot feature, and one without. Be sort of a limited test, the size is so small and the batting thin but worth it to see if any noticeable difference.
