Here in the UK ‘pillow’ refers to the item you have in your bed to put your head on.
A ‘cushion’ is more decorative and could be placed on a sofa, chair or on top of a bed. It might be sat on, placed behind your back when sitting or just used for decoration.

They are also fun to make and make great gifts or charity donations!
