I machined these as curved pieces, pin well, and because they are resonably gentle curves, they worked quite well for me, with the corners being more like a mitre. I have made a point of making oversize and trimming back afterwards, and this was a good one to do that, as far as I am concerned. Then I appliqued all the leaves/melons onto the background.
