This is part of my ongoing strategy to shop my stash first. I actually have more darker colors in enough yardage to use as backgrounds than lighter fabrics. I consider 2 + yard pieces as candidates. I had about 3 yards of this pink, and didn't have much left over. The last quilt I made with a dark green background was 3 yards as well. Seems like that is the right amount for lap size quilts.
