My husband and I visited the Antietam visitors center a number of years ago. The center was so informative and the presentation was very well done. There was an amazing "reverence" there and we have fond memories of the visit. My recommendation would be to include Antietam and shorten your visit to Gettysburg. Gettysburg seemed to be more commercialized. Enjoy your trip.
Yes, I read from reviews that people actually enjoy Antietam more than Gettysburg because of what you said. I read that Antietam is what Gettysburg used to be---not near the amt. of people!
