If I start with a 2 in. center square, the strip sets should be about six inches long by 3 inches wide. Cut that on the diagonal. Then you need to add a triangle to each corner. Adding the triangle saves a whole lot of fabric that would otherwise be cut off at each corner.
I haven't made this yet, so this is still an idea that I think might work !
12” block = 4” centre - 7 5/8 x 11 1/8 strips rectangle

15” block = 4 7/8 centre - 9 1/4 x 13 3/4 strips rectangle
