My first was in 1976, an Alphabet quilt. I drew a letter and a picture for each letter onto muslin blocks and embroidered them- the drawings were pretty funny- my alligator looked like a platypus.
I stitched the blocks to a dark royal blue polyester blend fabric- because that’s what I had. it was a quilt for my new baby girl. I picked up a really thick- lofty, polyester batting and used the same blue on the back. Pretty sure I tied it. I had no idea what I was doing but had been sewing clothes for years. She grew with that quilt and loved it.
