IMHO ... The wording is immaterial, but the results are what counts!

So .... the best way to get ready to sew is to take your fabrics and threads you are will be using and test your 1/4" seam. (Some fabrics and threads are heavier/thicker, so it's best to test with exactly what you will be using.)
Three 1-1/2"x3-1/2" strips sewn lengthwise together should equal a width of 3-1/2"x3-1/2".
Five 1-1/2"x5-1/2" ..... 5-1/2"x5-1/2"
etc.

If your seam is more than or less than 1/4" ..... your completed blocks will not be square.
Doing several different combos, with more strips leads to even more accurate results checking.

The importance of getting it bang on to start plays out when you assemble your quilt.
