Lovely! Since you named it Technical Difficulties and weren't happy with the outcome of your technique, perhaps practice the technique until you are satisfied with your results. You should know after that if you want to make another one.
And yes, I have done this myself. I almost always practice a new technique before making an entire quilt. This comes after many years of not doing that and wishing I had, usually after many hours of "reverse" sewing and swearing.
