My DH and I used to build telephones, and we absolutely hate the phone! (You should have heard those ringers going off while being tested for each shift in the plant!) But it is a necessary part of our lives, as we have family all over the U.S., and we need to keep up with them. Not only that, but we still have a landline, my DH has a flip phone, and I have a smart phone. Our landline also rings on my smart phone because I had our phone carrier to set it up that way, and I can block the numbers that I don't want to answer on my cell phone, but the landline will still ring.
