I found more of the smaller ones worked best for me, fist sized closeness. I never had any rust over many years, but they were good, bought new, not ones I had hanging around. The large ones, although quicker to use and easier on the hands allowed too much slosh/movement in the layer, my opinion only. That said, I don't hand quilt any more so seldom use my jar full. If you would like to trade (200-ish at a guess) for a priority envelope of scraps I'd be happy to barter. Fat quarters are yardage to me, I do mean scraps Sharyn
