Is she British? IceBlossom said she thought it was similar to "hangry". I'll be the first to admit I may be incorrect. My knowledge of the term came from Wallace & Gromit, and when I looked it up, the definition was "hungry". But slang has a way of morphing definitions.

On the other hand, when my husband is "out of sorts", my first line of action is usually to make him a sammich. Those husbands can get cranky if they don't eat.
