I have a question about my Snail’s Trail quilt. I’m a beginner and am wanting to make this quilt following Jenny Doan’s (Missouri Quilt Company) tutorial on YouTube. I ordered a layer cake but the squares don’t measure quite ten inches, about 1/8 inch short. I don’t know if this small bit matters but i’m Having the hardest time making the squares. The photo above is scrap fabric i’m Practicing on after wasting two of the layer cake squares. One question I have is, in the photo I have arrows pointing at two intersections. Are these intersections suppose to meet together instead of the way they are now? Also, I’m sewing 1/4 inch seam but my blocks end up with catty wonk sides. The block is supposed to finish at 8 inches but after squaring mine up they are 7 1/2inches. Hope i’m making sense. Any suggestions will be most welcome. I pretty frustrated right now.
Polly, start another thread on this and you'll get lots of help. Working with bias is a bit of a challenge but completely doable. I recommend starching your fabrics before you cut them and handle the bias as little as possible. So far it looks like you're doing a great job but I do understand your frustration.
