One quilter said to baste the whole quilt in a 4“ grid before starting. She recommended starting in the center and working out, but I thought to SID first around borders, then quilt the outer border for stability, then the panel, then the fabric surrounding the panel. Does that sound like a good plan to you? What order did you quilt in? You’re the first person I’ve seen do the dream big panel in the middle. And it’s stunning. Ruth
I didn't have any trouble with the panel being in the middle, and I didn't use double batting anywhere. I quilted it on a longarm. I stabilized the whole thing with SITD first, and that may have included some of the outlines of the petals (I don't remember for sure). Then I quilted the center panel because I knew that would be the most time consuming, and I don't remember the order after that. Normally I work down from the top, but it doesn't really matter once the whole quilt is stabilized.
