Are you going to finish it as a giant stocking? A hanging loop in the top like a regular stocking might work. Pin a loop to the top and see if the stocking hanging that way will fit on your door.
You may need to hang it along the top and if that is the case, I would cut a wire hanger apart and hand stitch the wire along the top edge to hang from.
