Like I said I didn't have a pattern. I know I cut my 'mortar' 1 1/2 inches X 4 1/2 between the bricks. However, right against the sides of the frame they had to be a little wider because you have to pay attention when you lay out your strips that your mortar matches all the way down. I must admit I had to rip some seams and said after the queen I'd never make another. Too much headache. Famous last words because I then had to make the King!-lol- the bricks were 4 1/2 x 8 1/4 , I think, except for ones on side of frame at beginning and ending. It really doesn't matter just so bricks are consistent in size and you keep your mortar lined up. Hope this helps.
