That idea about the solar stakes from the dollar store is a good one! I do have an emergency supply shelf/closet and will pick up a few of those when they come in for the Spring. It's subtle but most of my rooms have a candle in them even though I can count the power outages I've had here have been minimal, but growing up in Alaska meant learning that living required gear and preparation. Putting a mirror behind a candle maximizes the brightness.
