Default Accuquilt Log Cabin Die

I want to make a log cabin quilt, and I want each block to be identical. I have watched the videos using the Accuquilt Log Cabin Die by Eleanor Burns, Marjorie Busby and the creator, Leslie Main. If I use this die, won't I be cutting each piece of material in all of the varying lengths. In other words, if I use 6 dark material and 6 light material, each of those materials will be cut in each of varying lengths. Am I missing something? If this is correct then is this the best way to cut my material or would I be better off just using the 1 1/2" strip die and cutting the variety of lengths? If my thinking is not correct, then please help me see what I am not seeing clearly. Thanks for your help.
