According to Oxford, the definition for treadle is "a lever worked by the foot that imparts motion to a machine." I work in a sheet metal shop and was reading the information on a hydraulic press brake, when I noticed the familiar term
treadle. It is actuated by stepping on a bar that goes across the lower portion of the machine.
