The plastic track becomes brittle after a short time which may be why they upgraded to the wood track. I also have the newer carriage it is well worth the money. My frame is showing its age now and I am struggling with keeping it in balance. The new parts should keep you going for the longest time.

Thanks. That is very helpful. I would prefer the steel rods but didn't know if they would work on my GMQ since it uses the one inch track. I'm really interested in the new carriage you got. Will it handle a longer machine than the original? I have a Baby Lock that I would need about 3 or 4 more inches on the carriage to be able to use it. Thanks again for the help!
