Many years ago I was watching an episode of Simple Quilts and there was a person on the show that cut a template a 1/4 inch smaller that the shell and she ironed the cut out piece over the smaller template. I can't remember if she used a small brush or a Q-tip to apply starch to the part of the fabric being turned. She used a template that was made to be used with an iron - no idea of the brand. She also sewed them on to a foundation piece of fabric so it would stay straight. The procedure stuck with me because I do plan to make one some day - it was one of the first Accuquilt dies I bought.

Do you plan to sew it all by hand? Or you could do it with an appliqué stitch on your machine.
