If you have loops on the bottom, more than likely the top thread is not going through the tension discs properly or somehow, you have managed to change the tension to the loosest it can get. First, before unthreading, put your needle down and pull on the thread. If it slides freely, you don't have it threaded correctly through the tension discs or you have changed the tension. You'll have to figure out which it is.
