Do you mean templates made from thin plastic? If so, then no. I use a 60mm for rotary cutting and wear a cut glove for the inevitable oop-sie!
I like the go cutters best as it limits time with the rotary cutter.
ETA: I do use the standard rulers for cutting. My favorite is the 6.5x 24.5 ruler.
