If you are referring to

which I would not recommend or attempt)
and was very specific about making sure that it was an open toe as the needle position is different from the pressure bar than what machines those are made for.

Do you use a foot at all? Or do you use a needle darning spring? I did some darning on a Singer 301 which is a slant shank and used a darning spring. It worked well.
