I use snow white batting when I encounter this. Some fabric white is rather thin so when I purchase white I always go for the fabric that is "heavier" (That is a relative term - lol).

Also in mixed color quilts if I have a dark fabric I try to press to the dark side or if that will not work out I carefully trim the dark fabric so that it is not visible through the white.
