I took photos to a place that printed t shirts. They are expensive but printed and hold up well. I have also done the sheets you run thru your printer. Those printed well but faded in a short time. If you do one, I suggest you have her get the photos printed. At least she will have that expense on herself.
I did a photo quilt years ago. I printed the photos myself. It's been kept out of direct sunlight and never washed since it's a wall hanging. However, the photos have still faded a it. I doubt photos you print at home would hold up to repeated washings.
