If it's the 19th century you are interested in, Barbara Brackman's work is an excellent choice. She is an amazing historian.

Charlotte is on the money. Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia of Quilt Blocks is awesome. I checked one out at my local library before trying to find a copy online. Jinny Beyer's Quilter's Album of Patchwork Patterns is another amazing one. It may be in your local library system, as well. Best of luck finding the best fit for you.
