I very much appreciated the advice and decided to give it try. Here is my effort. Learned a lot. I sketched something on paper first trying for a pattern that easily let me move into the next block. Naturally I had trouble keeping a consistent pace and stitch length. I’m not sure I’m ecstatic with the results, but I’ll keep at it.
