I owned a Singer 1036, later less expensive non electronic model that had the same body as the Athena. This is "do so at you own risk" advice. Whenever I cleaned my machine I would remove the bottom cover and clean out all the lint as best as I could. There were two plastic gears below the bobbin winder that I could clean occasionally and grease with new grease. I'm not sure if Singer still sells that grease now. I was able to keep the machine running for over 30 years with no service calls.
