I remember when I was a teenager, and my Mom would always let me use her as an excuse. For example, if I wasn't comfortable with something, I could always say "My Mom doesn't allow me to do that" and she would back me up. If I was on the phone with someone and wanted to get off, I'd give her a certain look, and she would "Yell" at me to get off the phone. So I'd hang up, and say "Thanks Mom! :-)" I think just letting her know that you are there for her is huge.
I see too many parents these days that are trying to be their kids friends. Don't do it! Friends will come in and out of her life, but YOU are the only parent(s) she will ever have.
