About 10 years ago I was given a vintage hand pieced and quilted Double Wedding Ring quilt. Except no binding had been put on yet. I want to do that now so the quilt is usable. As you can see from the attached picture the batting and backing extends from the top itself by about 1.5 inches. What is the best way for me to bind? Should I go ahead and cut the batting and backing even with the top and then bind, or leave excess on and cut off after I attach the binding?
