Dusting off the cobwebs in my head. I believe that your machine may have a tapered friction drive wheel. I don't think you can hinge the motor back to block it from the handwheel Therefor the drive wheel may develop flat spots. It can be quite noisey and may not start without you turning the hand wheel. Again, this is a fuzzy recollection, but one to consider.
