Welcome to the QB from SE Michigan! I rarely go into a brick and mortar store. I buy most of my fabrics on line. I use mostly fabric.com and another is Marshall Dry Goods. Handcock of Paducah is also a great place. All sell LQS quality fabrics. Like you, LQS's are far and few between around here. I don't drive far from home and not at night at all.
You will always be the right age to start on a quilting adventure! Believe me you are not alone. I have seen a number of newbies come here at every age learning for the first time how to quilt. Jump in and join the fun, ask all the questions you want and in most cases there is someone that can help you along. Become familiar with your way around the site and just have fun.
