The best way to remove a Sharpie mark is to go over it again with a Sharpie and then wipe away while wet. This won't work for fabric or other absorbent surfaces though. I use a lead pencil for all fabric markings that won't be seen. For black or dark fabric I use white a blackboard chalk stick sharpened to a point.
