When I have made the mystery quilts I do not cut all the pieces in one clue. I wait until the block clue is given then cut the pieces to make how many I need for one block. I can see the contrast of fabrics this way in the different blocks. There have been many times I didn't like the colors at all so it was easy to swap fabrics before cutting them all up.
