I'm a believer of - when in doubt - opt out. Since you're not chomping at the bit to make it I'd say no and offer to make a lap quilt and show them some patterns you have made. If you say yes and decide to take the challenge what if you don't like it, don't enjoy doing it then you're kind of stuck.
