I think what happened was that I shut the latches in the unlocked position, and then the case got jiggled enough so that the key slot was no longer quite in right orientation. With mine, if its just a few degrees rotated, the round button refuses to move. So, I needed to get the key slot back in the right spot. I started experimenting before I started looking things up on-line, so I wasn't quite sure position things were in at the start.
