My aunt is in her late 80's and leaves these items on a tray on her walker. She does not leave the house much - she is not shopping or going out to eat unless taken by her son so she carries her purse.

A friend of mine was 90 and had a cell phone but never used it because she couldn't control her fingers well enough, she carried a small bag with her ID, credit card, cash, and note pad. Unfortunately she had a habit of setting it down even though it had a wrist strap and we were always going back for it, so I started keeping it in my purse whenever we went anywhere together.

At the end of my mother's life - she was 80 when she passed, she was wheel chair bound and wanted to keep her purse in her lap whenever she left the house. She was able to sit up in the chair without restraints so holding on to a purse was not a problem.

So it all depends on the person and what the person wants.
