Welcome! I am an avid quilter now but have sewn garments since I was about 12 years old, starting with dresses for my little sister to wear to kindergarten. Now I quilt AND sew clothing, bags, toys for my little grandchildren. If you look in the "pictures" part of the board, you'll see that lots of people sew other things than quilts. That being said, this board is primarily about quilting, with other sewing as an 'aside', of off topic post.
