There are a couple of things, besides batting that determine warmth in a quilt. If you take two identical quilts with identical backing and batting, quilt one very densely and one with quilting far apart..the quilt with less quilting will be warmer. The batting holds more heat when it is not quilted down. The other thing is that quilts are meant to be layered...people used to sleep under many, not just one..this also helps hold heat in..and finally, put your quilt under whatever other blankets you're using, this will add greatly to your heat kept in ...
