I have one for both of my machines and love it. You are right - t rarely worry about fabrics being sucked in. What I also love is that my newest machine automatically locks the needle to the center the minute you snap it in place but my older one sadly does not - and yes a few needles have fallen victim to the single hole stitch plate on that machine.
I doubt it was operator error
- maybe gremlins??
