The way this quilt works is that you start out with a strip that's about 1600 inches long and (finished) 2 inches wide. As you work, you are halving one dimension and doubling the other, so the dimensions go from 2x1600 to 4x800 to 8x400 to 16x200 to 32x100 to 64x50. When you start out with a longer (or shorter) strip, your first dimension (2,4,8,16,32,64) will change in the same way, but the second dimension will be bigger (or smaller), depending on the length of your original strip. It sounds like you were lucky in that you will be able to make two nice sized quilts. That must have been one really long starting strip!
